D.C. Law 24-288. WMATA Board of Directors Amendment Act of 2022.

AN ACT

To revise the requirements for appointment to and service on the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Board of Directors.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COUMBIA, That this act may be cited as the "WMATA Board of Directors Amendment Act of 2022".

Sec. 2. Section 2 of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Board of Directors Act of 2012, effective April 27, 2013 (D.C. Law 19-286; D.C. Official Code § 9-1108.11), is amended as follows:

(a) Subsection (a) is amended to read as follows:

"(a) To be eligible for appointment to serve on the Board of Directors of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority ("Board"), an individual shall have a demonstrated interest in public transportation and experience sufficient to represent the District well on the Board.".

(b) Subsection (b) is amended as follows

(1) Paragraph (2) is amended to read as follows:

"(2) Thereafter, members shall be appointed or reappointed by the Council to serve or complete a 4-year term commencing on July 1.".

(2) Paragraph (3) is repealed.

Sec. 3. Fiscal impact statement.

The Council adopts the fiscal impact statement in the committee report as the fiscal impact statement required by section 4a of the General Legislative Procedures Act of 1975, approved October 16, 2006 (120 Stat. 2038; D.C. Official Code § 1-301.47a).

Sec. 4. Effective date.

This act shall take effect following approval by the Mayor (or in the event of veto by the Mayor, action by the Council to override the veto), a 30-day period of congressional review as provided in section 602(c)(1) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December 24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code § 1-206.02(c)(1)), and publication in the District of Columbia Register.

The bill was adopted on first and second readings on Nov. 15, 2022, and Dec. 6, 2022, respectively. After mayoral review, it was assigned Act No. 24-726 on Jan. 10, 2023, and transmitted to Congress for its review. D.C. Law 24-288 became effective Mar. 10, 2023.
