D.C. Law 24-201. 2662 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Southeast Tax Sale Certificate Temporary Amendment Act of 2022.

AN ACT

To amend, on a temporary basis, section 47-1382 of the District of Columbia Official Code to extend the validity of a certificate of sale or judgment for the property located at 2662 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, S.E., described for tax and assessment purposes as Lot 1034 in Square 5868.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this act may be cited as the "2662 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Southeast Tax Sale Certificate Temporary Amendment Act of 2022".

Sec. 2. Section 47-1382 of the District of Columbia Official Code is amended by adding a new subsection (f-1) to read as follows:

"(f-1)(1) Notwithstanding subsection (f) of this section, the validity of a certificate of sale or judgement issued with respect to the tax sale of the property located at 2662 Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, S.E., known for tax and assessment purposes as Lot 1034 in Square 5868, ("property") shall be extended in accordance with the requirements of this subsection.

"(2) Within 30 days after the effective date of this subsection, the Mayor shall issue a tax deed bill for the property.

"(3) A tax sale purchaser, or the purchaser's assignee, shall have 180 days following the issuance of the tax deed bill, as required by paragraph (2) of this subsection, to pay the tax deed bill.

"(4) Within 30 days after a timely payment of the tax deed bill by the purchaser, or assignee, the Mayor shall issue the tax deed.".

Sec. 3. Applicability.

This act shall apply as of April 30, 2020.

Sec. 4. Fiscal impact statement.

The Council adopts the fiscal impact statement of the Budget Director as the fiscal impact statement required by section 4a of the General Legislative Procedures Act of 1975, approved October 16, 2006 (120 Stat. 2038; D.C. Official Code § 1-301.47a).

Sec. 5. Effective date.

(a) This act shall take effect following approval by the Mayor (or in the event of veto by the Mayor, action by the Council to override the veto), a 30-day period of congressional review as provided in section 602(c)(1) of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, approved December

24, 1973 (87 Stat. 813; D.C. Official Code § 1-206.02(c)(1)), and publication in the District of Columbia Register.

(b) This act shall expire after 225 days of its having taken effect.

After mayoral review, it was assigned Act No. 24-574 on Oct. 17, 2022, and transmitted to Congress for its review. D.C. Law 24-201 became effective Dec. 13, 2022.
